INTERMISSION

Fresh out of Pratt’s MFA program in Brooklyn Artists Imogen Aukland and Amanda Baker organize a show of monumental works in the clearing of recent Pratt MFA students: Nao Kondo, Eun Yong Lee, Josh Meillier, Brian Napier, Morgan Petitpas, and Noah Tavlin

Intermission

A theatre intermission is a moment of sudden disruption to the drama occurring onstage. At this fissure, the audience becomes suddenly aware that it has been tricked. In Intermission, we present the works of six artists from the Pratt MFA community: Nao Kondo, Eun Yong Lee, Josh Meillier, Brian Napier, Morgan Petitpas, and Noah Tavlin. In an interlude from the theatrics of daily life, these six artists will cultivate through  sculpture, site-specific installation, and performance, a brief moment of cognition before the ‘second act.’ These works unfold for a one-weekend-only exhibition at The Clearing, an outdoor art space in Cragsmoor, New York.

The works presented in Intermission conceal the methods of their own deception. Through playful illusion, they perform, distract, and misguide. Signs and signifiers, satire, and dream-like physics remind us that we are ever susceptible to trickery. The lights come on, and we re-enter life not as it has been presented to us, but as it is.
